Starting a Wedding and Debut Coordination Business

Among the most lucrative celebrations an event specialist can take on are debuts and weddings.

For those interested to be a wedding and debut coordinator, here are some tips:

Have the right discipline. Wedding and debut coordinators must be passionate in their projects, possess leadership skills, be able to work for long hours and on schedule, and most of all, be willing to sacrifice family time on weekends and holidays to cater to the clients. Creativity is also a necessary requirement if you want to thrive in this industry and make a name for yourself.

Learn the traditional ceremony. Learn the traditions surrounding these events. Introducing a unique event concept would have to come in later.

Find reliable suppliers. As a coordinator, your job is to coordinate everything needed in the preparation and the actual event. This means you have to have an idea where you can pull out the right kind of rabbits from different hats. Your basic list of suppliers would include photographers, videographers, caterers, florists for the church and for the reception, and audio-visual equipment providers. Consider not only the price but also the quality of the offerings to ensure repeat customers.

Assemble different packages. Starting from scratch while dealing with customers will be very taxing, to say the least. Before you go out to meet your potential clients, it is best for you to assemble different packages and price rates so you can at least start off with something. Work your way around the smaller details that they want to add or change.

Get to know your client. In debut coordinating, your real client—the person whom you must actually please from the get-go—is your clients’ daughter, the debutante. Sure, the parents want these things in these places, those decorations in these shapes and sizes, but are those what your “real client” wants? In weddings, getting to know the couple, their interests and ideas can really help you in designing the venue and figuring out what kind of games and theme to suggest for their event.
